Realism
Realism is an artistic movement that began in France during the 1850's. It is simply the depiction of subjects as they appear in everyday life. Realist painterspositioned themselves against the Romantics, which dominated French art and literature during the same period. Realism shuns embellishment and theatrical drama, portraying subject matter with complete versimillitude.
