Post-Impressionism

Post-Impressionism (a term created by Roger Fry, British artist and art critic in 1910) is an art style that attempts to extend beyond the tenets of Impressionism. While retaining the use of impasto or thick paint application, visible brush strokes, bright, unmixed colors and real life subject matter, Post-Impressionism tended more towards expressive distortions (i.e., Van Gogh) or geometric shapes (Seurat) as well as unnatural or contrasting color schemes.
